by | Jun 27, 2021 | Auto Accident, Wrongful Death

There was a major crash involving a train and a passenger vehicle in East Chicago, Indiana on June 26, 2021.  The 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan was traveling north bound on 4600 Euclid early Saturday morning.  According to police, the train crossing’s signals, lights and crossing gates activated.  Surveillance video shows the passenger car disregarding the warning gate, and being struck by the west bound train.  Three people were killed in the crash, with three children critically injured.

Safe train operators must take adequate precautions to ensure that their conductors do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a train accident.  Industry standards require train companies to provide adequate training to their conductors and engineers.  Safe companies must also supervise their conductor to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed, as well as all applicable federal guidelines.  Failing to properly train or audit a conductor the company allows to operate a train can have tragic consequences.  Federal law requires companies to take numerous steps in order to protect the members of the public.
