There was a deadly accident in Seguin, Texas on August 26, 2021.  The accident happened on on Interstate 10 at the State Highway 123 Bypass.  Early reports indicate an 18-wheeler was heading eastbound when it swerved to avoid hitting a construction crew working on the side of the highway.  The 18-wheeler was carrying a load of meat, some of which spilled onto the highway during the swerve.  A second 18-wheeler drove through the slippery spot on the road and lost control, crashing into the concrete barrier.  The cab of the 18-wheeler went over the concrete median, bursting into flames on the westbound lanes of I-10.  Multiple passenger vehicles were then involved in a second accident, also bursting into fire.  Three people were tragically killed in the crash.  It is unknown how many others sustained injuries.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this tragic accident.

Safe trucking companies must take adequate precautions to ensure that their drivers do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a trucking accident.  Industry standards require trucking companies to regularly inspect their equipment.  Safe companies must also supervise their driver to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed.  When there is cargo involved, it must be adequately secured on the trailer.  Failing to adequately secure cargo can result in dangerous accidents like this one.
