General Cargo Ship SAINT PROVIDENCE Sinking

by | Aug 8, 2021 | Maritime Law

The general cargo ship SAINT PROVIDENCE experienced a flooded engine room on August 7, 2021.  At the time, the vessel was in the Caribbean en route from Barranquilla, Colombia to San Andreas.   The crew members on board had to abandon ship, with a nearby container ship rescuing the mariners.  It is unclear if anyone was injured or lost at sea during this incident.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a fire on a vessel off the coast of Carlsbad, California on July 15, 2021.  A recreational boat capsized in Boston, Massachusetts on July 17, 2021.  There was a deadly boating accident on Lake Tobesofkee, Georgia on July 24, 2021.  There was fire on a vessel on Lake Wawasee near Syracuse, Indiana on July 24, 2021.  The cargo ship SUVARI H sank on July 29, 2021. The dredge barge Capt Leo II capsized and sank on August 4, 2021.  There was a fire on board the livestock carrier ELBEIK on August 6, 2021.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous incidents can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seamen at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
