Chemical Explosion at Hampshire, Illinois Facility

by | Jan 22, 2022 | Industrial Accident, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death

There was an explosion at a construction materials plant in Hampshire, Illinois on January 21, 2022.  Reports indicate two workers at the W.R. Meadows building materials plant were cleaning a tank when an explosion occurred.  The company is a manufacturer of asphalt and concrete building materials.  One person was killed and another critically injured in the explosion.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone impacted by this tragic incident.

Reports indicate this is not the first incident at the facility.  OSHA has cited the company at least twice over the past five years following injuries to workers.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and chemical plants.  Two workers were injured in an explosion at a steel plant near Detroit, Michigan on January 19, 2022. There was a fire at a chemical plant in Passaic, New Jersey on January 14, 2022.  There was an explosion at the Interplastic Corporation plastics plant in Covington, Kentucky on January 10, 2022.  A massive fire broke out at a plastics plant in Wharton, Texas on January 9, 2022.

Plants can pose significant dangers both to workers and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when catastrophic fires or explosions can occur.
