During the accident, an 18-wheeler hauling gravel on I-10 experienced a tire blowout.  As a result, the big rig swerved on the highway before striking a Toyota Corolla and a second vehicle.  The passenger vehicle was then pushed onto the concrete barrier dividing the roadway.  The driver of the Corolla was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There have been a number of recent trucking accidents in Texas and Louisiana, resulting in severe injuries and sometimes death.  A truck driver was killed by a shifting load in an accident in Paridis, Louisiana on April 4, 2022.  A toddler was killed in a deadly accident involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 12 in Holden, Louisiana on April 7, 2022.  There was a deadly 18-wheeler accident in Beaumont, Texas on April 11, 2022.

Safe trucking companies must take adequate precautions to ensure that their drivers do not severely injure or kill members of the public in a trucking accident.  Industry standards require trucking companies to regularly inspect their equipment, including their tires.  Safe companies must also supervise their driver to ensure that the company’s policies and procedures have been followed.  Any time a truck is transported heavy cargo or materials, extra consideration must be taken.
