The container ship RAGNA ran aground on October 27, 2022.  At the time, the vessel was en route from Denmark to Bremerhaven, Germany.  After leaving port, the vessel’s sailing was suspicious, before running aground.  Police boarded the container ship and determined the master was drunk.  The master was arrested and taken to shore by the police.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  A longshoreman was killed by a shipping container at Port Everglades, Florida on October 20, 2022.  A small recreational boat exploded in Harford County, Maryland on October 21, 2022.  There was an explosion on the container ship EF AVA on October 24, 2022.  There was a fire on board the ferry EXPRESS CANTIKA 77 on October 24, 2022.  A crew member was stabbed on board a vessel at the Port of Long Beach, California on October 24, 2022.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  This is especially so when working on a large ship. Safe maritime companies must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of their passengers or workers at risk.  Safe maritime companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, as well as ensuring its crew members are adequately trained.
