There was a deadly accident on the container ship MAERSK EINDHOVEN on January 25, 2023.  At the time, the vessel was docked at the Port of Los Angeles.  The worker is believed to have fallen 50 feet into a cargo hold on the vessel.  After the fall, paramedics attempted to resuscitate the worker, but were unsuccessful.  The containership is operated by Maersk A/S.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  A pontoon boat capsized on Lake Seminole in Georgia on January 18, 2023.  The tug boat SEA VOYAGER sank on January 19 or 20, 2023.  The container ship CMA CGM VERACRUZ became disabled on January 19, 2023, while en route to New Orleans, Louisiana.  An offshore worker fell overboard from the Valaris 21 offshore jack-up rig in the North Sea on January 22, 2023.  There was a collision between the tug boat MARK E. KUEBLER and the very large crude carrier NISALAH in the Corpus Christi Channel on January 22, 2023  The cargo ship TUZLA was hit by a missile on January 24, 2023.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe ship owners and operators must ensure that their vessels do not put the lives of hard working men and women at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, to also ensure that the environment is not impacted.
