Two tanker vessels collided in the Great Bitter Lake in Egypt on April 4, 2023.  At the time, the two ships were in the holding area for the Suez Canal.  The product tanker ALIGOTE struck a moored vessel, the Aframax tanker LYRIC MAGNOLIA.  Both ships anchored after the collision.  It is unclear if any crew members were injured.  Additional details have not yet been released.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  A crew member fell overboard on the bulk carrier HELLASSHIP on April 1, 2023.  A sailboat caught fire in Mobile Bay, Alabama on April 2, 2023.  A recreational fishing boat capsized in Suisun Bay, California on April 3, 2023.  There was a fire on the fishing vessel KODIAK ENTERPRISE on April 8, 2023.  A fire broke out on an offshore oil platform in a field off the coast of Trinidad on April 10, 2023.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe offshore vessel owners and operators must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of hard working men and women at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, to also ensure that the environment is not impacted.
