A fire broke out on the tanker ship CHEMICAL MASTER on November 22, 2021.  At the time, the vessel was off the coast of Portugal.  The fire is believed to have started in the vessel’s engine room.  Tragically, two crew members sustained severe injuries and were transported via helicopter to shore for emergency medical treatment.  Reports indicate both crew members have died of their injuries.  It is unclear if the fire has been extinguished, or if operations are underway.  The vessel is managed and operated by Chemship BV.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a deadly boating accident on Lake Sinclair in Georgia on October 27, 2021.  There was a boating accident near Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana on October 28, 2021.  A recreational boat capsized in Wassaw Sound, Georgia on November 1, 2021.  A fire broke out on board the container ship MSC SHANNON on November 7, 2021.  A recreational boat capsized in Gloucester County, New Jersey on November 13, 2021.  The fishing vessel Desire capsized off the coast of Oregon on November 15, 2021.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous incidents can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seamen at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
