Explosion and Chemical Release at Oxychem Plant in Ingleside, Texas

There was an explosion at the Oxychem Chemical Plant in Ingleside, Texas on January 27, 2022.  Reports indicate that a valve ruptured when workers at the plant started up a piece of equipment.  This resulted in a release of chlorine which ignited.  Crews were able to contain the fire before it spread.  A shelter-in-place was ordered for nearby workers following the chemical release.  It is unknown if anyone was injured in the incident.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and chemical plants.  There was an explosion at the Westlake Chemical South Plant in Sulphur, Louisiana on January 26, 2022.  There was an explosion at a construction materials plant in Hampshire, Illinois on January 21, 2022.  Two workers were injured in an explosion at a steel plant near Detroit, Michigan on January 19, 2022. A massive fire broke out at a plastics plant in Wharton, Texas on January 9, 2022.
