by | Sep 5, 2022 | Maritime Law

There was a fire on the bulk carrier EPIC on September 2, 2022.  At the time, the vessel was in Rouen, France.  The fire is believed to have started in the vessel’s cargo hold which had a load of scrap metal on board.  It is unclear if anyone was injured in the firefighting efforts.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a collision between the bulk carrier AP REVELIN and an unidentified cargo ship in Port Arthur, Texas on August 21, 2022.  There was a deadly accident involving a recreational boat on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri on August 20, 2022.   A recreational boat caught fire before sinking on the Columbia River in Oregon on August 25, 2022.  A boat exploded in Babylon, New York on August 26, 2022.  There was an explosion on the tanker ship TORC on August 28, 2022.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  This is especially so when working on a large ship. Safe maritime companies must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of their crew members at risk.  Safe maritime companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, as well as ensuring its crew members are adequately trained.
