There was a fire on board the container ship ESCAPE on February 22, 2023. At the time, the ship was located in the Gulf of Riga, Baltic Sea, near Latvia. According to reports, the fire began in the vessel’s engine room before spreading through the rest of the vessel. All fifteen crew members on board disembarked the vessel onto a lifeboat. They were luckily rescued by a passing cargo ship. It is unclear if anyone was injured during firefighter efforts or in leaving the vessel.
