Crew Member on MR. FRED Goes Overboard

by | Apr 27, 2023 | Maritime Law, Wrongful Death

A crew member on board the crew boat MR. FRED went missing on April 26, 2023.  At the time, the boat was near Port Sulphur, Louisiana.  The Coast Guard engaged in extensive search and rescue operations in an attempt to locate the missing crew member, but was not successful.  The worker’s identity has not yet been released.  The vessel is operated by Belle Chasse Marine Transportation.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this loss.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  On April 10, 2023, the product tanker SUCCESS 9 was boarded by pirates.  A fire broke out on the tanker vessel TIGER SEA on April 17, 2023.  The container ship MONA LISA struck multiple gantry cranes while in port on April 20, 2023.  There was a fire on board the fishing vessel KALTAN on April 21, 2023.  A recreational boat capsized on Lake Havasu on April 21, 2023.  The general cargo ship PETRA L struck a wind turbine on April 24, 2023.  There was a deadly fire on board the fishing vessel GRIMSNES on April 25, 2023.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe offshore vessel owners and operators must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of hard working men and women at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, to also ensure that the environment is not impacted.
