Fire on Ferry Boat PENTALINA

by | May 1, 2023 | Maritime Law

A fire broke out on the ferry PENTALINA on April 29, 2023.  According to reports, the fire occurred in the vessel’s engine room.  The ferry ran aground shortly afterwards, off the coast of Scotland.  Although the fire has been extinguished, reports indicate the ferry sustained water ingress.  It is unclear if anyone was injured in this incident.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  A recreational boat capsized on Lake Havasu on April 21, 2023.  The general cargo ship PETRA L struck a wind turbine on April 24, 2023.  There was a deadly fire on board the fishing vessel GRIMSNES on April 25, 2023.  A crew member on board the crew boat MR. FRED went overboard on April 26, 2023.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe offshore vessel owners and operators must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of hard working men and women at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, to also ensure that the environment is not impacted.
